At the beginning of the week, I thought that running three minutes straight was the end of the world. But the truth is as the days go on, at the end of the week it’s easier and feels completely doable. I promise.

And here is my encouraging spiel: Even if you’ve never excersized a day in your life, YOU CAN DO THIS. I’ll admit that roller derby has given me an advantage to accomplish this, but the truth is: I am not a runner. Well, until I started this journey. Now I can say it: I am a runner, and I am enjoying it and will run my first marathon within the next year.

So this week I kept up my gym schedule of running and lifting, but I also tried somthing new.

I went to a Krav Maga intro class.

Holy crap, is all I have to say. In case you didn’t know, Krav Maga is the official fighting system for the Israeli Defense Forces. They actually use this in combat. Crazy awesome and cool, right? Well it is a full body workout and the next day I could feel it. And I can’t wait to see how it tranforms me. There is a lot breathing involved so I can see that benefiting my derby and running as well.

Now to fight off my bruised palms and to remember to bring my mouth guard with me.

I am not sure that Krav Maga has spread to a lot of US areas, well the smaller ones. It is new in my area, so if you are interested in checking it out take a look at this book on Krav Maga for beginners.

Have you ever tried a Krav Maga or martial arts? Did you find it helping with your other fitness endeavors?
