If he had a nickel

My youngest son never ceases to either amaze me or to make me laugh with the random things that he says. And sometimes the things get pretty random that come out of his mouth.

A more recent and slightly funny yet frustrating experience of him saying something out there and random occurred a few nights ago around bed time.

We have had issues with bedtime forever so him not going to be immediately when asked and then told is not uncommon at all, it was just the circumstance of this night and what came out of his mouth amusing and frustrating at the same time.

I think it was the fifth or sixth time that I had asked him to put down the Wii controller (that I had already turned the Wii off to, by the way) and to get into bed.

He then proceeds to turn and look at me and say “If I had a nickel for every time you told me that  I would be rich.”

I am pretty sure that as soon as that came out of his mouth my eyes bulged and steam proceeded to come out of my ears. Instead of showing any sign of anger and aggravation which I am sure that I did not hide well. I informed him that if he would just go to bed the first time that he would not have to hear it so many times as he seems to think he does about going to bed.

Thankfully after that he finally listened, and I could take a second to finally get the humor in him using such a phrase.

Do any of your kids use phrases that you may or may not have thought they have heard or thought were too old fashioned, like the one above?

  1. LOL! Where do they come up with this stuff?? My son’s favorite thing to tell me is, “You’re fired!!”. I answer back with, “I quit!!” and he begs me not to quit. It’s become a big jokne between us now.
