Sugar Free Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

Usually I am not much of a healthy eater but recently we have had to make some changes so as a family we are going all out and trying to eat more healthy. All of us! So far it has been a crazy task to get tastes changed and not to want cupcakes and pizza. Well I have attempted my first healthy snack and made Sugar Free Oatmeal Cookies. And instead of sugar to give them flavor they had bananas which the kids and their dad loved.

This recipe is super easy and is great for those with diabetes as well. And while I am getting used to eating more healthy I thought the recipe was kind of plain however the kids and the one that they were for loved them. And I do think that the bananas and vanilla in them added a great taste.

Sugar Free Oatmeal Cookies Recipe
Prep time:

Total time:

Ingredients
  • 3 large bananas , mashed
  • 2 cups whole grain quick cooking oatmeal
  • ⅓ cup light butter
  • ¼ cup fat free milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup raisins (these sound good but I did not use them because the person I made the cookies for does not prefer them)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl and let stand for 5-10 minutes so that the oatmeal will absorb excess moisture.
  3. Drop dough by teaspoons fulls onto ungreased cookie sheets. (flatten the dough because if that is not done the dough will bake into balls) Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool for 1 minute on baking sheets before removing

  1. This sounds like an awesome sugar free recipe. Healthy is good! Applesauce makes for a good ingredient to replace fatty butter and grease.

  2. Thanks for the recipe. My hubby is always looking for healthier sweets & I think he’ll like this!

Recipe looked so inviting I went directly to the kitchen and gave it a try. Only had 1 banana, so I did a test run by reducing all the ingredients to match the 1 banana. I also added some Splenda to make sure they were sweet enough; and also added cinnamon for a little added zest. They’re in the oven now. Will keep you posted.

Oops! I cooked them too thin, but taste was OK, I’ll start over with using three bananas like the recipe calls for. I’m pretty sure this recipe is going to produce some very healthy and good tasting cookies.

I like this recipe, but the texture is a little dense, and I’m not sure what would improve it; perhaps a little baking powder? I added cinnamon, and 4 TBS. of Splenda. The cookies are small, but I like that and if appearance matters, I learned by accident that if you bake the cookies for 15 min prior to pressing them down the edges crack, they look more appealing and become a little crispy around the edges but stay soft in the middle. Also, they are less sticky when you press them after they bake, but a little water on your hands prevents that prior to baking.

I’m baking like crazy for company and will see how well they freeze.

  5. Just made these. Unfortunately, I greased the cookie sheet, which I probably shouldn’t have – so, the bottoms were a little greasy, and the cookies were really soft (not necessarily a bad thing). However, I would like to say, for anyone who is thinking about making these, that they aren’t really cookies. They taste and have the texture of a really soft banana bread. Delicious, but not what I was expecting. They’re super easy, definitely worth trying.

  6. Just googled for a recipe for sugar free oatmeal cookies (to calm a pregnancy craving) and came across this and instantly headed into the kitchen to try it out since I had all ingredients on hand. All in all they are really great! They are very dense (someone previously compared it more to bite sized banana bread) and obviously not sweet like normal oatmeal cookies but I really liked them and will make them again. I might try adding some cinnamon next time but I like that they are healthy and no sweetener added. Just what this prego mom with gestational diabetes was looking for as a snack alternative. Thanks for the recipe!

  7. I don’t have light butter on hand. (In fact, I’m not even sure what that is.) Can I use an equal amount of regular unsalted butter instead?

    • Well, the regular unsalted butter have more fat on it but certainly will make the cookies even more crispy. It is a matter of taste, go ahead and us the regular butter, they will taste better.

My 5yr old and I were looking for a sugar-free oatmeal cookie recipe and came across this. It was very easy to make – added cinnamon and chocolate chips for a touch of sweetness and it turned out great! It does resemble a dense banana bread as other reviewers mentioned but, overall my family enjoyed it and it’s a keeper in my kitchen! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
